Just One Dollar

I'm interrupting our regularly scheduled programing for an important announcement:
Here is a chance to do something small and help in a big way!
A friend of our's from church, Terry Foester is doing an experiment to help a local homeless man, here in Wilmington, DE, named Herman. Terry and another friend, Ben, have been reaching out to the homeless here in Wilmington. Herman is a gentleman that they've really been able to connect with over the last few months.
Go to Terry's site and check it out!
Terry is raising some funds (for which he has a matching donor)… for it to work this has to be virally because you can only give $1. Yes--ONE DOLLAR.
If he can get 500 people to give one dollar, the donor will match it, dollar for dollar, for a total of $1,000!

He isn’t going to give Herman the cash. He would like to help Herman in a more significant way.
Read Terry’s post for details but here a few details:
Comment here on his blog.
Leave your first name and your city & state.

Follow through by sending $1 to:

Busy times

I can't believe almost a month has gone by since I wrote last! I really need to commit to updating at least once a week. Than my posts won't be so long and boring!

I had a great trip to Houston to see my best friend and her family! Her little girl, Glory Raine, is the most precious thing ever!

I had so much fun with Glory and Angela!

I came back in just enough time to leave for PA to be with Nate's family for Easter.

Here are a few pictures of our time there in Etters.

Grace enjoyed riding around on the little airplane that Nathan & Ryan's grandfather built for them.

Two weeks later I was back in PA for ladies retreat with our fomer church in PA. On the way, I was able to stop and visit my dear friend, Jenny, who I hadn't seen in probably five years, .

Ali & I eating Reese's Peanut Butter Cup S'mores at the bonfire at the retreat.

This past weekend, Nathan spent some time flying in the Cessna 120. He finally finished all the repair work he's been doing on it the last year and it looks amazing!

Okay, that's about it for now! Hope you are all enjoying this beautiful spring weather!

Packing my suitcase once again

I'm sure you are shocked to see three posts in two weeks time!! That's what this whole unemployed thing will do to ya! Speaking of that, because of a job offer I will end my unemployed status in two weeks! Oh well, it was fun while it lasted (kinda)! Thanks for all of you that prayed for my job search. Thanks to our great God for meeting that need so quickly!
Today I'm packing for a much overdue trip to Houston! My best friend, Angela, gave birth to Glory Raine on December 14, 2007. This little baby was born with great anticipation.
You see, December 8, 2006, Angela gave birth to a precious baby girl named Journey Hope.

Journey lived eleven incredible hours on this earth. It was awesome to be there with Dave & Angela and have the ability to meet Journey.

"A lifetime of memories in just a few moments"

I know someday Glory Raine will come to love and admire her very brave and special big sister.
I wasn't able to make it to Houston for Glory's birth, but I can't wait to meet this little crazy bundle of joy! I leave tomorrow morning and will be back for Easter. Hopefully, I'll have all kinds of fun pictures to share!

Okay, I better get back to packing all those fun summer clothes. Speaking of summer clothes, I just tried a few on to make sure they fit before lugging them all the way to Houston, and everything feels incredibly indecent after this freezing cold Delaware winter!!

a quick blog

I know you all are anxiously awaiting an update ;).

I had the opportunity to go to Atlanta for work in February. Thankfully, I had the chance to visit my family and some friends! Here are a few pictures:

And for other news, I resigned from my job a few weeks ago and am trying to figure out where I'd like to go next with my career.

Because of that, we are working on slimming down the budget. I decided to call Comcast and "threaten to cancel" to see what they would do. They decided to reduce our bill by Thirty DOLLARS---just because we asked. Verizon wasn't quite as cooperable though :(.

I found this great website: More Than Enough, with great moneysaving ideas.
If you live in DE, starting tomorrow at Acme, you can get EIGHT boxes of GM cereal for $8. I know that's a lot of cereal, but it doesn't go bad for a long time if you don't open it. You can also get eight boxes of Nature Valley Granola Bars for $8. They are usually over $3 each box!

Okay, that's all for my money saving tips of the week. Hopefully, I'll be back with more next week!

Nathan & I had the opportunity to meet our new nephew, Luke. He is six weeks old and so cute!!

Here's Nathan helping Grace with a puzzle:

And here's Grace being a great big sister.

December & January

It's been sooooo long since I've blogged! I have no idea where to begin! Maybe where I left off? Okay, that would be way too long and you would not stick around for very long to read all of that stuff. How about I give you little snippets with a few pictures along the way :)?

  • Christmas!! We celebrated Christmas in our own home in Delaware!!!! Oh to do that every year!! My family came up from Atlanta, which was an extra special treat. Here are a couple pictures. (click to enlarge)

  • We celebrated New Years Eve at our friend's Michelle & Gabe's home. Thanks for throwing a great party--guys!

In January:

  • We had a great "after Christmas party" with our small group.

  • We said good-bye to Josh Ewing. Josh was one of the students from the College ministry we led for the last few years. He was diagnosed with Leukemia a little over a year ago. Please pray for the Ewing family and also his fiance, Jenn.

  • I went down to visit my friends, Cherith & Heidi Pierson, in D.C.! We had a great time of shopping and eating!! What more could you ask for?

  • A group of girlfriends celebrated a birthday of a dear friend, Elizabeth. Elizabeth went home to be with the Lord last March. We knew Elizabeth would want us to get dressed up and celebrate her birthday. We were all a part of a bible study Elizabeth started! We had a great time reminiscing about Elizabeth!

Okay, that's all I'll share with you for now!! I'll save February for another post. Upcoming: my trip to Atlanta, Nate's inaguaral flight in the Cessna 120, the job hunt, trip to annapolis...
Leave me lots of love to encourage me to keep blogging :)

finally getting in the spirit...

of Christmas! Here are the ways we are getting in the spirit:

  • We purchased a cute overpriced Christmas tree from the boy scouts this weekend. It's still on our screened in porch, drying out from all the rain. Maybe we'll decorate it this week.

  • I ran in a Reindeer Run (5K) last friday night. What could be more fun than running

around in snow and mud with jingle bells and antlers on? hmm... nathan opted out of that one, i wonder why?

  • Singing pretty worshipful christmas songs in church (not listening to annoying 24hour a day christmas radio that everyone is trying to force on me at work)

  • by looking at our calendar and seeing almost every day of the week being filled up until Christmas.

  • by being overwhelmed with the thought of what we are going to do for Christmas cards!

  • Hope you all have a good week of getting ready for Christmas and take some time to enjoy this season!

strange people

Most of you know that I've taken up running. [And when I refer to "I" it means Amber. Nate likes me to post on our blog and likes to look at it, but he doesn't know how to write on it.]

Anyway, back to the point of the story. I've been running since July. I am not a treadmill runner, mainly because I don't have one and refuse to pay that much for a very boring sport. I enjoy running outside and try to vary up my route every day, but it really never fails to amaze me the things people do to runners. It has become better since I've been running in the morning instead of late afternoon. Maybe it's because I live in a college town. I really don't know.

What is it that they do? These young guys think it's hilarious to just scream out their windows. and I don't mean screaming as in, "wow she's really good looking, I should just scream out my window so she knows I think this." I mean screaming like "I want to scare the crap out of this girl." The first time I thought, wow that wasn't cool. But I ignored them and just kept on running. After it happened numerous times I realized this is just a " funny cool thing to do to people". You usually don't catch me running without my ipod turned up really loud so I can just tune these obnoxious people out! It would be different if I looked really strange when running, but what is strange about this:

So, my question is, when did it become so popular for young guys to be so rude and obnoxious to women? I guess this isn't the only rude and obnoxious thing young guys do to women, I'm sure it's one of many and I'm one of many women. But I really think it's just sad.

On a brighter note----25 days until Christmas!! I'm really excited about Christmas this year! I think I have successfully talked my family into joining us in DE this year!! :hint: :hint:
